Great Bear Sea Marine Protected Area Network

The resulting Great Bear Sea Marine Protected Area (MPA) Network will be the world’s largest Indigenous-led, collaboratively developed, ecologically robust MPA network and is a ground-breaking model for Indigenous collaborative governance.


There are two films in this series

For the past two decades, First Nations have been working collaboratively with federal and provincial governments to create The Great Bear Sea Network of Marine Protected Areas that will safeguard the North Pacific Coast region’s diverse ecosystems and abundant marine life, while ensuring that First Nations’ cultural priorities and traditional harvesting uses and coastal livelihoods are sustained.
